12-10-14: The LIFT project was sold as a feeder-area system, where focused work with elementary students would yield big gains later at West Charlotte High. The Year 2 consultant’s report, however, notes that many children at LIFT elementaries and middle schools don’t end up at WCHS. In fact, 89% of Allenbrook’s 2012-13 rising sixth-graders went outside LIFT. In that year, only 37% of LIFT 8th-graders moved to West Charlotte. Those who did enroll at West Charlotte “are among the lowest performing in the Learning Community.” Says the report: “Attrition that occurs at several transition points among LIFT schools makes it impossible to provide the sustained supports that were initially envisioned for the LIFT initiative to many students.”
